Live streaming using a custom service on Zoom

You might be able to live stream meetings and webinars to a customized platform if your account administrator has enabled this option. After your webinar has begun, you will be able to easily begin streaming by clicking a single button after you have begun the configuration.

In addition to live streaming to Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook Workplace, you can also live stream to LiveStream.com.

Notes:

  • For Zoom to be able to stream to these servers, the live streaming URLs must be public.

Prerequisites

Streaming for meetings

  • Depending on your needs, you can choose between Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise accounts
  • That are licensed by the host.
  • The desktop client for Zoom is:
    • For Windows, version 4.0.29183.0407 or higher
    • For MacOS, version 4.0.29208.0410 or higher

Streaming for webinars

  • There are four types of accounts available: Pro, Business, Education, and Enterprise A Webinar license is provided to the host
  • Through the Zoom Desktop client as follows:
    • Windows: version 4.0.29183.0407 or higher
    • MacOS: version 4.0.29208.0410 or higher

​​Enabling custom live streaming for meetings

Account

Using a custom live streaming service, all members of your organization will be able to participate in meetings live.

  1. Using the Zoom web portal, navigate to the Zoom link as a user with the privilege to edit the account settings.
  2. Once the account settings are displayed, click on Account Management.
  3. You will find the Allow livestreaming of meetings setting under the Meeting tab under the In Meeting (Advanced) section. Ensure that it is enabled. Check the Custom Live Streaming Service option, and click Save to save the changes.
  4. (Optional) Click the lock icon to force the setting to be applied to all users in your account, and then click Lock to confirm the change.
  5. You could update the meeting organizer’s instructions so they can configure the required meeting settings when they set up the meeting.

Group

Note:

Zoom can now ask you to use the New Admin Experience if you signed up for a new account after August 21, 2021, the Group Management page was renamed to Groups if your Zoom account is enabled with the New Admin Experience.

It is possible to live stream meetings of a specific group with a custom live streaming service in order to give all members of that group access:

  1. As an administrator, you should be able to edit groups in the Zoom web portal once you log in.
  2. Select Users on the left hand side, then select Contacts and Channels . You can add contacts, create contact Groups on the right hand side.
  3. On the right hand side, click the group name that you wish to edit.
  4. In Meeting (Advanced) select the Meeting tab from the left navigation bar and scroll down to the Allow livestreaming of meetings option. Make certain it is enabled, select the Custom Live Streaming Service option, and click Save to apply the settings. 
    Note:
  5. There may be a case of the option being grayed out due to the fact that the account level has locked it, and that needs to be changed.
  6. The lock icon is an optional setting, in case you wish to make that setting mandatory for all users in this group. You can confirm the setting by clicking Lock, once you have clicked the lock icon.
  7. In this case, you should update the meeting instructions so that the organizer of the meeting is in a position to configure the required settings at the time of scheduling the meeting.

User

Live streaming meetings on Facebook can be enabled by following these steps:

  1. Log into the Zoom web portal by entering your Zoom username and password.
  2. Click on the Settings button.
  3. In the Meeting tab, make sure the Live Stream feature is enabled under the configuration section for In Meeting (Advanced). Also, make sure the option allows custom live streaming service is checked, and click Save to save the change.
    Note:
  4. There may be circumstances in which an option has been grayed out and not available, such as when a Zoom administrator has locked it at either the group level or the account level, and you must contact them to get it unlocked.
  5. If necessary, update the instructions so that when the meeting organizer schedules the meeting, the organization can configure the required settings ahead of time.

Enabling custom live streaming for webinars

Account

Using a customized live streaming service from your organization, you can allow all members of your organization to participate in live webinars:

  1. Log in to the Zoom web portal as an administrator with the ability to edit the account settings by logging in with your Zoom login credentials.
  2. From Account Management, select Account Settings and then click Save.
  3. You will find under the In Meeting (Advanced) section of the Meeting Tab, there is a setting that allows you to live stream webinars. Make sure that it is enabled, check the Custom Live Streaming Service option, and then click Save to save the changes.
  4. (Optional) If you wish for this setting to apply to all users in your account, you can select the lock icon, then click Lock to confirm that the setting affects all users in your account.
  5. – (Optional) Update the meeting instructions to ensure that when the meeting organizer schedules the meeting they can specify the required settings.

Group

It is possible to make a live streaming service available for all members of a specific group of people, so they can all participate in webinars:

  1. Log onto the Zoom web portal as the administrator whose permissions include the advantage of editing groups.
  2. Select User Management, then Group Management, and then click Submit.
  3. You will be able to edit the group by clicking on its name.
  4. The Meeting tab of the Meeting manager is located under the advanced heading In Meeting (Advanced). Please find the setting Allow livestreaming of webinars within this section, verify it is enabled, and check the Custom Live Streaming Service option, before clicking Save to save the changes. 
    Note:
  5. The red x on the right – in this case, t – indicates that the option has been locked at the account level and that it must be changed there.
  6. For all users in this group, you must click the Lock icon and then click Lock to confirm the setting. If you do not want to specify the setting for all users in this group, you must click Unlock.
  7. (Optional) Update the instructions on the meeting schedule so that the organizer can configure the necessary settings when they schedule the meeting.

User

For your webinars to be live streamed, you would need to set up a live stream service that is customized for your webinars.

  1. Join Zoom’s web portal by signing into your Zoom account.
  2. Then click on Settings.
  3. Locate the Allow live streaming of webinars setting in the Meeting tab (Advanced) and make sure it is enabled. Check to see if Custom Live Streaming Service has been selected, and then click Save to commit the changes.
    Note:
  4. You will need to contact Zoom’s administrator if an option is greyed out, which means it has been locked either at the group or account level.
  5. Identify the settings that must be configured when the meeting organizer schedules the meeting (optional).

Setting up custom live streaming

Please follow the following steps if you wish to stream a meeting or webinar in a customized way:

Meetings

  • Log into the Zoom web portal by entering your username and set up a password at the individual meeting, go to the settings tab and enable it. This setting will give you an option to set your password.
  • Then click on Meetings.
  • You can schedule a meeting by selecting Schedule a Meeting and entering the required information.
  • Clicking Save will display a list of options that most people find helpful.
  • To configure a custom streaming service, click Custom Streaming Service under the Live Streaming tab.
  • You can follow the instructions that are provided by your administrator by following the instructions in the green box. If you find the instructions lacking sufficient information, you may contact your administrator, or you can select Enter details on the fly during the meeting under Configure live stream.

  • If you want to broadcast live via a custom streaming service that requires authentication, toggle the option Authentication required for broadcast. This service will prompt you for your username and password during the meeting.
  • Once you have saved your settings, click Save.
    This meeting can be live streamed without the waiting room , the screen will change to the following screen. Please wait until the host having to make any additional settings after it starts.

Webinars

  • To access the Zoom web portal, you need to sign in.
  • Once you are logged in, select Webinars.
  • Once you have entered all the necessary information, you need to schedule the webinar.
  • To schedule the webinar, click Schedule at the top of the window.
  • Using the More tab, select the Live Streaming section of the menu, then click Configure Custom Streaming Service.
  • Simply follow the instructions provided by your administrator, which are in the green box. You can also enable Configure live streaming during the meeting to input information live if the instructions do not provide sufficient information.

  • ‘(Optional) If the live streaming service requires that one authenticates to stream, then enable the Custom streaming service requires that one authenticates before I can publish. You will be asked for your username and password upon registering for the webinar.
  • Once the settings are complete, click the Save button.
    Live streaming of this webinar will be possible without the host having to make any additional settings after the presentation has begun.

​​Starting the custom live stream during a meeting or webinar

Using a custom platform, you can live stream your meeting or webinar:

  • As the host of the meeting/webinar, take the following steps:
    • You can access the meeting/webinar from your calendar if you have added it to your schedule. Simply click the link in the calendar reminder.
    • Click on the Meetings or Webinars page of the Zoom website, find and click on the meeting or webinar, and click Start.
  • On the host controls page, click More.

  • Click Live on the Custom Live Stream Service option.
    As long as the webinar organizer has configured live custom streaming on this webinar, a browser window will open that shows the progress of Zoom as it prepares to broadcast the webinar live.

It is your responsibility to enter the values in the instructions provided in the event the webinar organizer didn’t set up live custom streaming.

  • There will be a prompt that asks you to enter the necessary password and username if the custom live stream requires authentication.
