*Zoom and services that include the name Zoom are services provided by Zoom Video Communications, Inc.
From July 15, 2022, Zoom will have a 40-minute limit even for meetings with two participants if you have a free subscription. (Previously, it was only for meetings with 3 or more people.)
Companies and organizations using Zoom for business should consider switching to a paid license at this opportunity.
There are many situations where it is useful to record videos, such as watching videos of meetings that you were unable to attend at a later date, creating minutes from recorded videos, and reviewing videos of lectures and seminars.
After recording a Zoom meeting, you can share it as is, but if you take the time to edit the video, it can be much easier to watch.
Benefits of Editing Zoom Videos
There’s a reason why people bother to edit video recordings of Zoom meetings.
There are clearly more benefits to editing videos than just recording them.
you can cut off the excess
In a meeting, there will always be parts that become lazy and redundant, and parts where the discussion gets sidetracked.
You may make mistakes in lectures and seminars.
The good thing about videos is that you can cut out unnecessary parts.
Let’s cut the parts that are not related to the main topic.
Shorter viewing time
Attending a meeting for a long time doesn’t bother me, but watching a video for a long time can make it difficult to concentrate. Also, there are cases where people say, “I can’t start watching because I think I have 2 hours.”
If you shorten the viewing time per video by cutting unnecessary parts or dividing it into two videos, you can watch it in your spare time and maintain your concentration.
storage savings
Have you ever found your hard disk or cloud filled with video files in no time?
Video files are large and take up a lot of storage space.
Rather than saving a file that records the whole meeting, you can save more videos by trimming only the necessary parts and save a lot of videos, and you don’t have to organize your disk frequently.
can highlight the main points
By inserting telops and BGM, sometimes changing the composition significantly, and editing it so that the main points stand out, the video will be sharper and easier to convey to the viewer.
Even with Youtube videos, the content of well-edited videos is easy to remember.
It’s a bit of an advanced technique, but recently there’s been an increase in free editing software that’s easy to use. I would love to try it if I have the time.
Edit meeting video in Zoom
I want to edit the video of the Zoom meeting, but it seems to be difficult…
For such people, we recommend using Zoom to edit videos recorded with Zoom’s cloud recording.
What is cloud recording
Did you know that there are two types of recording methods when recording with the “Recording” function in Zoom’s meeting control?
- local recording
- cloud recording
“Local recording” is a recording method that saves recorded videos locally on your computer, and can be used by all users, including Zoom free accounts.
“Cloud recording” is a function only for paid accounts of Zoom.
Recorded data is saved on the Zoom cloud, which can be used with a paid license contract.
You can download and use the video files, or you can share them with others while they are on the cloud.
Here’s how to edit Zoom videos on the cloud.
Trimming (editing) a video in Zoom
Trim (edit) the cloud-recorded video on Zoom.
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal (https://zoom.us/).
- Click Record.
- A list of cloud recording videos is displayed.
- Click the thumbnail of the video you want to edit to start playback.
- Click the scissors icon.
- Drag on the bar to select the trimming range.
- Click “Save” to save the trimmed video.
add subtitles to video
“I recorded the global conference, but I can’t hear the English in the video!”
“Audio transcription” that transcribes the audio of the Zoom meeting.
Cloud recording with this feature turned on will generate transcription data.
By adding the generated data to the video, you can display subtitles.
The transcription function is currently available only in English, but it is planned to be available in 30 countries in 2022. Look forward to future updates.
Enable audio transcription
To use “Audio Transcription”, you need to enable the feature in the Zoom web portal.
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal (https://zoom.us/).
- Click Settings.
- Enable the setting in the “Cloud Recording” option in the “Recording” tab.
- Enable “Audio Transcription” in “Advanced Cloud Recording Settings” and click “Save”.
Add transcription data to recordings
Cloud recording with Audio Transcription enabled creates a transcription VTT file in the same location where the recording was saved. Let’s add this VTT file to the recorded data.
*It may take some time to create the file after the meeting ends.
- View the recording in the “Recordings” section of the Zoom web portal (https://zoom.us/).
- Click the “CC” icon at the bottom right of the screen to set subtitles.
Trim video on computer
If cloud recording is not available with a free account, Zoom recording files will be saved locally on your computer. Trim this video file using video editing software.
There are various paid and free editing software, but here we will introduce standard software that can be used immediately if you have a computer.
Windows
“Video editor” that is installed as standard in Windows.
It has all the basic editing functions such as trimming the video, adjusting volume, inserting text, changing speed, etc.
If you only want to trim, you can just open the video from “Photos”.
mac
Speaking of video editing software for Mac, “iMovie”. Although this is standard software, basic editing functions are covered. The simple operation that allows you to move intuitively is popular, so even if you are new to video editing, you can rest assured.
