How to install Office apps
Next, we will explain the types of Office apps that can be used with the Microsoft 365 Business Basic plan and how to install them when using the desktop version of Office.
How many installs per user?
The Microsoft 365 Business Basic plan only allows access to the web and mobile versions of Office and does not include entitlements to the desktop versions of Office.
Therefore, with the Microsoft 365 Business Basic plan, you will have to install the web version or mobile version of Office, but since there are no restrictions on the number of installations or usage per device, you can freely install it on any device.
However, please note that some functions are limited in the web and mobile versions of Office, and operations such as opening locally saved files are not possible, so the range of use is limited to some extent.
To use the desktop version of Office
If you want to use not only the web and mobile versions of Office but also the desktop version of Office, we recommend using “Business Standard” or “Business Premium”, which is the higher plan of Microsoft 365 Business Basic.
The Standard and Premium plans include the right to use the desktop version of Office, and you can install Office on up to 15 devices.
However, it does not mean that 15 devices can be freely selected, and the upper limit of the number of installations is set for each device: 5 PCs (Windows or Mac), 5 tablets, 5 smartphones.
Therefore, please note that you cannot install Office in the following way, for example.
- Install Office on 5 Windows and 5 Macs
- Install Office on 10 PCs and 5 tablets
- Install Office on 15 smartphones, etc.
If you are unsure about the difference between a tablet and a smartphone, please refer to the following two points.
Tablet | smartphone | |
---|---|---|
Presence or absence of telephone function | Nothing | Yes |
screen size | 7 inches or more | less than 7 inches |
