*Zoom and services that include the name Zoom are services provided by Zoom Video Communications, Inc.
From July 15, 2022, Zoom will have a 40-minute limit even for meetings with two participants if you have a free subscription. (Previously, it was only for meetings with 3 or more people.)
Companies and organizations using Zoom for business should consider switching to a paid license at this opportunity.
This article explains how to allow participants to use Zoom’s screen sharing function.
We also have a list of functions that allow you to control permission settings on the host side, so if you are planning to hold a meeting as a host, please refer to it.
How to allow participants to screen share on Zoom
First, we will explain the procedure for allowing participants to share the Zoom screen for each device.
For PC (Windows/Mac)
When using Zoom on a computer, we recommend using the desktop app.
If you have not installed the desktop app, please install it from here (https://zoom.us/) first.
There are two ways to allow screen sharing from the Zoom desktop app: from the “security” function and from the “screen sharing” function.
Each operation procedure is as follows.
Allow sharing from security features
- Launch the Zoom desktop app and start the meeting
- Click Security from the menu at the bottom of the screen
- Check “Share your screen” from the “Allow participants to” list
You can also prohibit screen sharing from the participants again by unchecking the screen sharing by the same operation.
Allow sharing from screen share feature
- Launch the Zoom desktop app and start the meeting
- Click “^” next to “Share Screen” in the menu at the bottom of the screen
- Click “Advanced Sharing Options”
- Check “All participants” in the “Who can share with?”
You can also cancel the screen sharing permission by returning the user who can share to “host only” with the same operation.
In the “Advanced Sharing Options” screen, you can also change the following settings along with screen sharing permissions.
Number of participants who can share at the same time | Can be shared by 1 participant at a time OR Multiple participants can be shared at the same time (dual monitors recommended) |
Who can start sharing when someone else is sharing | host only or all participants |
For smartphones/tablets (iOS/Android)
If you want to use Zoom on your smartphone or tablet, you will need to use the mobile app.
You can’t host or participate in Zoom from your browser, so be sure to install the app from the App Store (or Google Play) in advance.
Here’s how to allow mobile app screen sharing:
- Launch the Zoom mobile app and start the meeting
- Tap “Details” from the menu at the bottom of the screen
- Tap “Security”
- Tap the switch to turn on screen sharing
If you want to change the default settings
If you want to always allow screen sharing by participants, it is convenient to change the default setting from the Zoom account page by following the steps below.
- Access the Zoom website (https://zoom.us/)
- Click Settings from the navigation menu
- Scroll down to the “Meetings” tab and go to the “Screen Sharing” section
- Check “All participants” in the “Who can share with?”
