*Zoom and services that include the name Zoom are services provided by Zoom Video Communications, Inc.
From July 15, 2022, Zoom will have a 40-minute limit even for meetings with two participants if you have a free subscription. (Previously, it was only for meetings with 3 or more people.)
Companies and organizations using Zoom for business should consider switching to a paid license at this opportunity.
In this article, for those who are using Zoom for the first time, we will explain whether you need to register an account and how to use it for free.
Zoom can be used without registering an account
There may be some people who want to use Zoom, but think, “Registering an account seems like a hassle…” or “If possible, I’d like to use it without registering.”
In conclusion, Zoom can be used without registering an account .
However, if you do not register, the functions are limited, so you may need an account depending on how you use it .
We will explain the cases where Zoom account registration is unnecessary and the cases where it is necessary.
Participants do not need to register
Zoom allows you to attend meetings as a participant without creating an account .
All you need is the invitation URL sent by the meeting waiting room , the screen will change to the following screen. Please wait until the host or the meeting ID and passcode. If you don’t have an account, you can still receive invitations by email.
When you start using Zoom for the first time, you don’t have to rush to create an account if you’re the one being invited to the meeting. It is not too late to consider creating it after you need it.
Account required to host meetings
To host a meeting on Zoom , creating an account is mandatory.
If you want to host your own meetings instead of being invited to them, sign up for an account.
If the meeting ends within 40 minutes, a free account is fine.
If you have a Zoom meeting with people who don’t have an account, you can’t start the meeting without a host, so one person will have to create an account.

Is real name registration required?
Zoom does not specify a registered name, so there is no problem even if you do not register with your real name .
You can set your display name before joining a meeting.
If you have registered your account with your real name but do not want to show your real name on the Internet, you can change the display name.
I didn’t receive the verification email
If you do not receive the verification email when creating your Zoom account, first check to see if it has been sorted into your spam folder.
If it is not in spam either, go back to the account creation screen and check if the email address you entered is correct.
If the email address is correct, click “Resend another email” to try sending the verification email again.
Please note that there may be a slight delay in receiving the e-mail, so if you do not receive it immediately, please wait for a while.
If you cannot register a password, check the following two points.
Does it meet Zoom’s password policy?
A Zoom password cannot be registered unless the following conditions are met.
- 8 characters or more
- Contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number
Check if the password you set meets the conditions.
Does it match the password confirmation field?
The contents entered in the “Password” and “Confirm Password” fields must match.
If you cannot register the password, delete it and try again.
can’t sign in
If you are unable to sign in to Zoom even after completing your account registration, the possible causes are as follows.
wrong email address
Check that the email address you entered on the sign-in screen is correct and that there are no typos.
wrong password
Since the password input field is displayed with ●, even if there is an input error, it may not be noticed.
Passwords are case-sensitive, so if CapsLock is on, the case may be reversed.
I forgot the password
If you forget your password, click “Forgot your password?” on the sign-in screen.
Please send an email to the registered email address to reset your password.
Paid account recommended for business use
Zoom allows you to join meetings without registering an account, and you can host meetings with a free account.
However, when hosting a meeting with 3 or more people with a free account, there is a limit of 40 minutes for one meeting .
I would like to avoid having an important meeting with a business partner cut off in the middle.
If you use Zoom for business, we recommend a paid plan with unlimited group meetings.
With a paid plan, it is also possible to store recorded meeting data in the cloud, making it easy to share internally and externally.
